Hey,
I’m a slow learner, but you don’t have to be. Click here to learn everything I know about live storytelling.
My first writing class, about 25 years ago, ended with a live show and after that first performance, I was hooked. I loved the connection I felt with an audience. A few years later, I created a storytelling show, Lip Service, where, along with seven other storytellers, I read stories on stage four times a year for nine years. When I left Lip Service, The Moth, which hosts story slams in 28 cities, was gaining traction in Miami. The Moth is different because stories are told, not read and the show is a competition.
For years, I hated the Moth. What do random judges know about what makes a good story? I rehearsed. I memorized. I lost 14 times. But I’m a competitor, so I kept going back.
This time—after only 25 years of training—I told a story in the most real way possible. I didn’t craft anything beforehand. I didn’t rehearse. I just told the story the way I felt it.
Now, I think I know exactly what matters in storytelling—authenticity—and I want to share how to reach it.
Join me in From Page to Stage and Stage to Page. This workshop is for anyone who wants to tell a story out loud AND anyone who wants to write stories more authentically. We’ll discuss writing tips and practice telling a story out loud, which helps hone stories for the stage and the page.
